A Walsall newsagent is recovering after being stabbed during an attempted robbery in his store.

Harinder Dhadli, who owns Kendrick News in Moxley, was viciously attacked by a knife-wielding raider when he refused to hand over contents of his till.

The two men tussled and Harinder was twice stabbed in the chest while attempting to subdue the robber. Harinder managed to pull the raider's jumper over his head, causing him to drop the knife and flee empty-handed. Harinder also suffered a head injury and cuts to his hands in the attack.

Harinder's wife Min said: "You always hear of these things happening, but you don't expect them to happen in a peaceful area like this. It was very frightening."

Min added that Harinder has left hospital and will make a full recovery. The store was closed for two days after the incident, but has since re-opened.

West Midlands Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the attack and charged him with intent to rob, grievous bodily harm and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was remanded in custody until his court date later this month.
