Jempson’s, the East Sussex-based independent, has announced a multi-million pound refurbishment and extension of its Rye supermarket.

The investment will result in 50% more retail space, a new car park layout and an internal refit, including new chillers, freezers and fixtures.

Work is due to complete in June, but the store will be kept open throughout the work.

The revamped store will feature an enhanced fruit and vegetable ‘Market Hall’ fixture, an expansion of the bakery, further food to go options and increased check-out facilities.

The town’s Post Office will also be incorporated within the store. Its opening hours will be extended from 6am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday.

Director Stephen Jempson said: “Suffice to say my colleagues and I are excited by how the upgraded, extended and improved supermarket will look.

“Jempson’s are proud to be a part of the local community and we hope that the store and new services it now provides will be well received by all.”
