Spar wholesaler James Hall & Co has launched a scheme to help increase the sustainability of stores by reducing the amount of unnecessary plastic waste on the shop floor.

Enviro-2, a two-part ticket rail developed in partnership with Concept Data Display Ltd, reduces the amount of waste created by ticket rails by 40%.

The patented design provides a sustainable and cost-effective solution for retailers, allowing for the replacement of solely the clear plastic front when it becomes worn or damaged.

Concept Data Display Ltd sales director, Dave Saunders, said: “Ticket rails are still one of our biggest selling products and large numbers are used throughout stores to display prices and promotions.

“These rails are currently manufactured as a single piece so when the clear plastic front becomes worn or damaged, the whole unit has to be replaced. We felt that there had to be a greener solution.”

“The new ticket rail has been designed to fit the Caem shelving system and it is the first of a range of ticket rails we will be manufacturing. This scheme aims to reduce the scrappage of ticket rails within stores by 40% and we are delighted to be working with James Hall & Co to provide a more sustainable option for retailers.”

Following a successful trial, the rails will be used throughout James Hall’s Spar stores.

Keith Rose from James Hall Store Design said: “As Spar UK wholesaler for the North of England, James Hall & Co are committed to addressing sustainability issues within the industry.

“The new ticket rail will be trialled in our newest company owned store, Spar G&E Murgatroyd Kirkby Stephen and following a successful trial, the two-part ticket rail will be rolled out across our retail portfolio.”
