An independent retailer is attempting to fight government proposals to ban store owners from displaying tobacco products.
Aasim Rashid, owner of Marland News in Rochdale, has written to all retailers in his area urging them to join his campaign against the display ban.
"I am totally against these plans," he said. "It will really affect sales and there are already enough restrictions around smoking. If we don't display cigarettes, then we won't sell them."
Aasim has appealed to retailers to record their protests with their local MPs.
"We hope for the sake of our businesses that we will succeed in stopping the government from enforcing the legislation," he added.
Last month retailer Darren Norman set up a petition on the 10 Downing Street
website to get the government to re-think its proposals. The web address is: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/cigsdisplay.
