Spar retailer Tates is anticipating continued improvement in its fresh food sales as managers get behind an incentive scheme for the second year running.
Managers throughout the group's 205 store estate have been issued with targets covering sales of a number of perishable chilled lines, as well as fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes.
Managing director Geoff Hallam and retail operations director Stuart Adkin have visited each store manager to talk through the incentive scheme, which will result in one manager winning a car at the end of the year.
Hallam told Convenience Store: "The scheme is a way to push fresh food sales. It was very successful and well supported last year and this year we've made it more comprehensive by personally visiting all managers in their stores."
In 2006 the winning manager was rewarded with a trip to Spar's conference in Cancun, Mexico.
