Bestway has officially opened its first dual-branded Bestway-Batleys cash and carry.

The 110,000sq ft depot, on Kilbirnie Street, Glasgow, is the former Sher Bros site, which Bestway acquired earlier this year. It is the group’s eighth cash and carry in Scotland, but the first one to carry the Bestway name.

The site features a new alcohol department, traditional and halal butchery, plus extended space for fresh, chilled and frozen foods, plus ethnic ingredients.

Speaking at the opening, Bestway chief executive Zameer Choudrey said: “There is no other wholesaler that offers such depth of range, and we are also giving you more value and more support.

“Bestway prides itself in delivering outstanding value to customers. From everyday low pricing to special deals and trade days, we are sure you will see a major difference in the prices you pay. And if you join any of our retail clubs – our Best-one symbol group or Xtra Local promotional club – you will benefit even more. Best-one is growing at 38% since the start of the year and Xtra Local isn’t far behind with growth of 29%.”

General manager Pat Collins added: “Since we acquired the Sher Bros business, a lot of hard work has been put in by staff, contactors, builders and the like. I would like to thank all our customers for sticking with us while the building work was going on, and I am sure they will see that the wait has been well worth it. They now have a depot that is a joy to shop and one that we all can be rightly proud of.”
