London cash and carry group Dhamecha has started work on its sixth depot.

The new site, at Hayes in West London, is the former distribution centre for Woolworths-owned subsidiary Entertainment UK.

Close to the M4 and M25, the 100,000sq ft warehouse will follow the established cash and carry-only format that has proven succesful at the group's five other sites. It is scheduled to open in spring 2010.

Chief executive Pradip Dhamecha told C-Store that the location had been in the company's plans for some time.

"We have always been looking for something in West London, but property prices made it difficult to find the right site until now," he said. "The transport infrastructure around Hayes gives easy access for an extensive customer base within a 10-mile radius. We have enjoyed great success with our relaunched Enfield depot, which has out-performed expectations, and we hope to continue this progress with our new site."

Dhamecha, the largest member of the Today's Group, grew turnover from £352m to £397m in the year to April 2009, and is up a further 5% so far this year, Dhamecha added.
