Former head of TM Retail David Saunders has died after a long illness.

Saunders, described by his peers as one of the architects of the UK convenience retailing industry, worked at Sperrings before running his own
business under the banner of Midland Convenience Stores.

He then launched the Alldays concept before becoming
managing director of TM Retail in 1999. At TM, he managed the integration of the Forbuoys and Martins chains.

Saunders was a director of the ACS and served a stint as an international director of NACS.

He is survived by a wife and son, who have asked that any donations should go to the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The funeral was on August 4.
