An entrepreneurial Costcutter retailer in Lye, Birmingham, has brought in extra revenue by opening an in-store beauty salon.

City Spices owner Makhan Sunner, who converted half of his back office to make way for the new business, said: “The salon is helping to increase our footfall and raise awareness of the business in general.

“Every time clients come for a beauty treatment, they have to walk through the store. Some come from miles away, and didn’t even realise that the shop was here.”

The salon, which is run by Makhan’s daughter Sukhi, has been open for five weeks, but has done a roaring trade, turning over £500 a week from less than 100sq ft space, as well as driving incremental store sales.
