Stores are hoping to make Halloween 2014 the most memorable yet with sales expected to hit a high of £240m, according to Mintel.

Raju Patel of Eldred Drive Stores (Premier) in Orpington, Kent, said he had invested in decorations, including a talking ghoul, in a bid to engage with local teenagers.

“The run up to Halloween is so much shorter than Easter but is a bigger opportunity in terms of engagement and sales,” he said.

McColl’s Retail Group will run its charity Halloween campaign for a second year, teaming up with Cardiac Risk in the Young and St George’s, University London.
