Booker’s acquisition of Makro has been formally cleared by the Competition Commission (CC).

In its final report published today, the CC concluded that the merged company would continue to face sufficient competition from other wholesalers in all areas affected by the merger.

“The CC therefore believes that the existing and potential alternatives offered by other suppliers will ensure that the merger will not lead to a substantial lessening of competition,” it said.

The merger creates a wholesaler with more than 200 depots. Booker acquired Makro for £140m in May 2012.
