Booker has rejoined the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) after an absence of nearly two years.
The cash and carry officially rejoined the FWD on March 1, having worked with it on an unofficial basis for a number of weeks. It is now expected to take a full part in FWD affairs, including the My Shop is Your Shop campaign, and new Booker chief executive Charles Wilson will address the FWD conference in April.
Booker dramatically left the FWD in May 2004 after a clash between Bill Grimsey, chief executive of Booker’s then parent organisation the Big Food Group, and FWD director general Alan Toft, nominally over the FWD being forced to abandon a legal challenge to Tesco’s takeover of Adminstore.
With Booker under new ownership and Toft retired from the FWD, the way is now open for the wholesaler to come back into the fold.
