A team of 29 volunteers from Blakemore Retail head office and nearby company-owned Spar stores spent a day creating an outdoor classroom for pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Cefn Glas, South Wales.

The team transformed a field at the rear of the school into an outdoor classroom by creating an allotment, raised bedding boxes, constructing an insect hotel and seating area. Once the classroom was completed, Blakemore also organised a colouring competition for pupils at the school with Spar vouchers as prizes. The school was chosen for the project due to the participating stores being in its catchment area.

Blakemore Retail team leader Hayley Parsons said: “The project was a great opportunity for our head office employees to collaborate with our Blakemore Retail Spar stores to make a positive contribution in the community. The team worked exceptionally well together and I’m looking forward to working with St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in the near future.”

Head teacher Lyndon Watkins thanked Blakemore Retail for their work on the project which was also supported by Brandon Tool Hire, Durston Garden Products, Wickes Bridgend, Country Timbers Llantriant and B&Q Bridgend.
