Supermarkets have been criticised in the House of Lords for the number of plastic bags they give away each day.
Minister of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Lord Rooker, told members that if supermarkets were banned from branding plastic bags they may be less inclined to hand out so many. He told members: "The answer lies in reusable bags. If the supermarkets did not give these bags away, at the expense of other customers, or maybe were not allowed to put logos on them, they might change their tune about the waste being created in this country."
