It's going to be an interesting debate this year after tobacco, alcohol is now on target getting the misguided government's sledge hammer treatment (i.e more legislation to combact social issues!!!) Minimum price will not solve anything as the current price of alcohol is rock bottom and 40p will not even get on the radar. When alcohol is cheaper than water thanks to mults and manufacturers reponsible for price deflation in the sector and consequently taking all value out it, a slight inflation will be welcomed by most retailers. I will be supporting the government on this one be it for a different reason of course . On the question of multi buys , banning will not work as mults will simply reduce unit cost which will make the whole exercise misguided. Let's hope that the government takes a long term view rather than knee jerk reaction . For god's sake we have enough legislation without adding any more !!!!
