Energy company E.ON has launched a new tool to help shoppers locate convenience stores and newsagents at which they can top up their prepayment electricity meters.

The ‘Prepayment Store Locator’ tool is available for desktop and mobile devices so people can locate stores and top-up wherever they are.

It brings together more than 50,000 Payzone, Post Office and Paypoint stores across the UK and displays the 10 nearest top-up locations as well as store information, directions and opening times.

The tool is being launched alongside a new guide which helps shoppers understand roughly how much energy they use and what amount they might need to top up on.

According to the tool, the average household spends around £30 a week on gas and electricity in the winter.

The launch came in the same week that the Citizens Advice Bureau published new data on the most complained about energy companies.

The national charity’s latest energy complaints league table revealed that SSE is the least complained about energy company, followed by E.ON and British Gas. EDF, Scottish Power and Npower rank lower down the table.
